Ashley performing with two hoops simultaneouslyAshley has been hula hooping since the age of four.

No matter what your age, hula hooping can make a great pastime!
Hula hooping isn't just for kids; just a few minutes of hula hooping can
prove to be a wonderful aerobic
workout!

If you're interested in learning how to hula hoop and learn a few basic
tricks for beginners, you've come to the right place.  Scroll down to learn how to hula hoop.

How to Hula Hoop -
Stand up straight, keeping your feet slightly apart.
Depending on your skill level, it may be helpful to place one of your feet faintly in front of the other.
Hold the hula hoop with both hands and place it around your waist and against your back.  Lightly twirl the hula hoop in a counterclockwise motion with your hands and let go.  To keep the hoop going, move your body forward and back with the hoop's rotation.  If you keep your swinging steady, the hula hoop should spin around just above your hips.  It may take some practice to keep the hula hoop in rotation for long periods of time, but keep practicing and you will have it down soon!
Around the Knees -
After you have learned how to Hula Hoop, you can try keeping the hula hoop twirling around your knees.  To begin, stand straight with your legs and feet together and place the hoop at your knees, just so it is touching the back of your knees.  Give the hula hoop a twirl and spread your arms out for balance.  Move your knees forward and back with the hoop's rotation, and the hula hoop should spin right above your knees.
Multiple Hoops -
After you have gotten very good with basic hula hooping, you can try to keep more than one hoop going at one time.  Do just as described in the "How to Hula Hoop" section above, only with more than one hoop.  On your first try, only try two hula hoops, then advance to three after you can successfully keep two going, and so on.  Don't expect to do many hula hoops right away; it takes lots of practice!  Keep practicing and soon you will be able to keep more than one hula hoop spinning at once.
